For the third consecutive year, Viola Davis has managed to be recognized by the Primetime Emmy Awards. She won the trophy once in 2015 for her performance as Annalise Keating on the rookie season of How to Get Away With Murder. She has again been nominated for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama Series.Cicely Tyson, who plays Viola Davis's on screen mom Ophelia Harkness, has been nominated for Outstanding Guest Actress in a Drama Series. This is her second nomination after having been nominated in 2015 for her single-episode appearance at the end of the show's first season.
The ceremony takes place on September 17, 2017.
