For the fourth consecutive year, Viola Davis has managed to be recognized by the Primetime Emmy Awards. She won the trophy once in 2015 for her performance as Annalise Keating on the rookie season of How to Get Away With Murder in the category Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama Series. However, this year, she was left out of this category, but has been nominated for Outstanding Guest Actress in a Drama Series for her performance as Annalise Keating in the crossover episode with Scandal.
Cicely Tyson, who plays Viola Davis's on screen mom Ophelia Harkness, has been nominated for Outstanding Guest Actress in a Drama Series. This is her third nomination after having been nominated in 2015 for her single-episode appearance at the end of the show's first season, and her performance in the show's third season.
The ceremony takes place on September 17, 2018.
